2002年の琉球大学の卒論で始めたカメフジツボ調査から博士課程修了までの10年間、日本全国で採集したウミガメ・クジラ類に付着するフジツボ類、オニフジツボ超科の分類学的研究です。全国各地で多くの人の協力を得てウミガメ・クジラの付着生物調査を遂行することができました。この論文では日本のどこで、どんな生き物にどのフジツボが付いていたか、既存研究の記録から自身の調査結果まであらゆる日本での記録をまとめています。採集できた全種について、フジツボの殻形態、軟体部の形態の詳細な記載を行っています。日本産カメフジツボ図鑑といった内容です。

日本のウミガメ・クジラ類からは、オニフジツボ超科のフジツボが13種採集されました。また、このウミガメ・クジラ類などに特有なオニフジツボ超科の分類体系について、これまでの歴史的な変遷と国際命名規約上無効な命名行為についてもまとめました。この研究はこれまで元気なウミガメを捕獲してくれた漁師のみなさま、全国各地で野外調査を手伝ってくれたみなさま、標本を譲ってくれたみなさま、情報をくれたみなさまの協力を得て遂行することができたものです。改めて感謝いたします。
